I am directed by the Officer Administering the Government to acknowledge the receipt of your letter No 2566 of the 17th instant, and to state in reply that the Colonial Government is not prepared, at all events for the present, to accede to the demand to which you make allusion.
I beg to refer you to the letter addressed to the Military authorities on 2nd of June last in which the reasons for which it was considered that the claim should not be complied with were minutely detailed.
It is true that since then the Officer Administering the Government has received from the Secretary of State the communication, a copy of which you mention has been forwarded by the War Office to the Major General Commanding, but His Excellency does not consider...
